Aleksandar Gatalica Wins NIN Literary Prize

Aleksandar Gatalica is the winner of the most prestigious literary award in Serbia, NIN award, for his novel Veliki rat (The Great War), the jury has decided.

The jury stated that Gatalica’s novel stood out from the rest with the artist’s revision of relations in the First World War by following destinies of hundreds of famous and anonymous characters and by combining fantasy with documentary approach.

Gatalica’s novel won the prestigious award in competition with novels “Zoja” by Mira Otasevic, “Veprovo srce” by Drago Kekanovic, “Štampar i Veronika” by Katarina Brajovic, “Nesreća i stvarne potrebe” by Ivancica Derić and “Posmrtna maska” by Laslo Blaskovic.

The jury for awarding NIN award consisted of Vasa Pavkovic, Vladislava Gordic Petkovic, Ljiljana Sop, Mileta Acimovic Ivkov i Mica Vujicic.
