Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic decorated Austrian writer Peter Handke with Gold Order for Services saying that Handke refused many honors, but accepted the medal awarded by friendly Serbia.
“It requires a great courage to support Serbia since 1996. Constantly and always”, said Nikolic at the ceremony in presidential building and added that “it was a great success to refuse recognition from those that you know are wrong”.
Handke thanked the Serbian President in a short statement given in Serbia, and said that he did not suffer due to his support to Serbia.
“I’ve always been enriched by it, the Yugoslavian, and also Serbian problem has made me rich from within”, said Handke and added “I haven’t been anyone’s victim, Serbian people is the victim”.
